Hi Eric!
I hope you are having a great birthday. Are you doing anything special to celebrate?
We are in the midst of a big Nor’Easter – looking to dump well over a foot of snow on us right now. The kids are planning on no school tomorrow, and I’m planning to work at home. We have a cozy fire burning and we are remembering you on your birthday. I was trying to remember if you wore boots to school on snowy days when you were in Jr High. Trevor and Derek live in sneakers – no matter how deep the snow is. Are all teen boys this way?
Well, regardless of the boots, you were a pretty cool older brother for not ratting us out when your little sisters were up to no good!

Piece o’ Cake!

I think Holly had a blast with her new hobby. She has spent the better part of the last 2 days creating her first decorated cake. This is just a practice cake and I’m sure we can find volunteers to consume it. The cake tastes awesome. It’s an almond flavored cake with lemon filling. The process is quite lengthy and involved. But Holly has some new tools to make it a “piece of cake”. Ah-hem… There are more pics on the Gallery page…

Holly trades up this week

Holly is bored with her splint and will be trading up for a hard cast in a day or 2. I think this is a good idea given Hollys “I can still do it” attitude. With a hard cast, chances of a protracted healing or re-injury are lessened. She could also use it in self defense or to ‘persuade’ the kids to help with this and that… Anyhow it will be an accessory she’ll be wearing for about 6 weeks…

I hate hospital food!

And I would not have been at the hospital if it were not for my sweetheart. While in Bethel ME. at the Bethel Inn Holly and I were the only guests adventurous enough to try the skating rink. It started off really good, the sun was shining, the ice was pretty good, then in a split second – wha-bam, Holly went down and took 100% of the weight of her slender frame all on her right wrist! Ouch. Many minutes later we were enjoying the supportive assistance of the staff at the Rumford Hospital. So now our X-Country ski get-away is, well, just a get-away… It’s moi bueno because we still don’t have to take the dogs out and cook dinner and vacuum and wash the dishes and… well you get the idea.

Preemptive self-sympathy

Tomorrow I will be nursing the kind of pain only a day of shoveling can cause. Those from Maine know – its that pain deep inside the muscle tissue and hunkered-down for a few days, stubborn, ornery. It’s unfair that I’m thinking about it now, as I’m perfectly fine but I know that 13 inches of snow will not melt fast enough for me to avoid removing it. I know others are thinking the same. It’s toying with me – it keeps coming down – it knows I won’t go out until it shows weakness, a break. So, for now, I wait and give myself preemtive self-sympathy…

I know that many of you like using facebook to stay in touch. There are however, aspects of facebook many of us don’t care for. Although there is security built in (to facebook), it seems to be such an open, accessable space for anyone to “creep” (or evesdrop) on posted “discussions” or users profiles.
